Lou (Madeline) Grosskop 1933 - 2006
Lou told me one time she went by Lou instead of Madeline so she was on equal footing with her competition . Her goal was to get the job done no mater what it takes. An she did. Whatever project she took on was done with only one speed full; tilt. Whether it was hunting, working in the office, or helping support Harold her husband with his interests and projects. With Harold on the Board of Directors of the Museum three years ago, at that time we had some grant money to work on restoring the Pompeys Pillar Bank. Harold supported the project and got Lou involved in the project. They were out there pulling nails with me in the demolition phase in the hot summer sun. Lou brought cookies and ice tea, making it a more pleasurable afternoon. Then Lou went to work with her best weapon, the phone; as she knew many contacts with resources to help out. Wood from Timberweld, a teller cage from Passing Time Antiques, and most important Mark Fox who has put in hundreds of volunteer hours into the project. It would never have gotten as far as it has without Harold and Lou’s help. Another project she dove into was the Horsefest. I had the idea, but it was Joe Feist, and Lou who knew the people to make it such a success. Lou was on the phone, when she had a stroke June 12th. She died on the 19th. The church was filled to capacity with family and friends. The museum received over $1300 in her memory, which Harold has designated to be used for the pressed tin ceiling in the Pompeys Pillar bank. I will be proud to look up at that ceiling and smile about Lou.
