History of the Homesteaders

Newsletter

they grew up, too.  I didn’t do it and now have this huge regret to take to my own grave.  At least one of Dad’s sisters would have remembered him climbing a tree as a very young boy to listen to Booker T. Washington talk to the local black farmers about finances, farming certain crops, crop rotation and other matters of livelihood.  As a child in grade school, I only read about Booker T. and yet I could have learned much more, albeit second hand, from my own family members.  So I lost not only so very much of my father’s personal history and his siblings’ but also state and national history, too.

Question:  If you don’t grab a tape recorder or camcorder and/or if you don’t persist with your own children, who will take what regrets to their grave?  And since we, ourselves, are living breathing histories, so are museums.  Won’t you please come help us at HPM stay alive, happy and knowledgeable?  Thank you.

Pompeys Pillar Bank Update

Unless the canal overflows, the bank should be ready for visitors this July.  Mark Fox and Barry Bender have once again donated many hours to get the bank project going again.
